Do I need to request a zoning exemption?

Preschool and Primary School applicants:

I don't live in Sèvres or Boulogne and I would like to enroll my child in your Extension programme on Wednesday afternoons. Do I have to worry about filing administrative paperwork?

No. You are not required to reside in a specific city in order to enroll in our Extension programme. However, children must be fluent in English or German which is determined by our entrance tests.

I don't live in Sèvres or Boulogne and I would like to enroll my child in your Integrated Primary School programme. Do I have to file a special request at my town hall?

Yes. Both cities require families to file a "dérogation" or a special exemption from local zoning rules. If your child is eligible for admission into our Integrated programme, you must obtain an exemption from your local "Mairie". Our Admissions Team will be glad to assist you.

Middle and High School applicants:

I don’t live in Chaville, Saint-Cloud or Sèvres and my child is in CM2 (the last year of primary school). I have received the admission form for my local collège. Do I have to get a “dérogation” - a special exemption from zoning rules - for my child to join a SIS sixième class?

INTEGRATED PROGRAMME:

Unless you already know that your child has received a firm offer of a place in one of our International Sections, you should fill in the form for your local collège and follow normal procedure. As soon as your child receives the firm offer from your Department's computerised system called "Affelnet", he or she is automatically admitted to the collège in Chaville, Saint-Cloud or Sèvres. This does not count as an exemption (dérogation) but as an ‘international’ admission procedure. Out of courtesy, you should notify your local collège or your child’s school, as you are freeing up a place there by accepting SIS admission.

But the head of my child’s primary school insists that I fill out the request for a dérogation!

Not everyone is aware of the procedure to follow for international sections. It is all rather complex. If your head insists, fill out the request and write COLLEGE GOUNOD or COLLEGE EMILE VERHAEREN or COLLÈGE de SÈVRES or JEAN MOULIN DE CHAVILLE on the line for school. There’s nothing to worry about. When the committee meets to examine the requests for exemptions, international section files are processed differently.

While on the subject of paperwork, we have a recommendation to make.

Once in the International Sections, your child will be participating in class trips. Make sure he/she has his/her own passport or identity card (it usually takes at least a month to obtain these papers and can take longer just before school holidays). If you have opted for an identity card, she/he will also need a carte d’autorisation de sortie du territoire (document permitting a minor to leave the country without his/her parents). This is usually valid for 6 months (depending on your local municipality).

FOR THE EXTENSION PROGRAMME:

You are not required to reside in a specific city in order to enroll in our Extension programme. However, children must be fluent in English or German which is determined by our entrance tests.

An "Inter" must be able to travel!
