Checkpoint Secondary 1

As part of the core curriculum in 6e and 5e at the SIS, pupils prepare for the Cambridge Secondary 1 Checkpoint tests in the spring of the 5e year. These diagnostic tests provide evidence of readiness for the next stage of the English programme, assessing skills, knowledge and understanding expected at the end of the early secondary years. Through Cambridge Secondary 1 Checkpoint, learners experience a test held under external examination conditions and gain early preparation for Cambridge IGCSE.

The tests are marked by Cambridge examiners to provide a benchmark of learner performance on Reading
, Usage and

  • Pupils sit two separate papers (Paper 1 and Paper 2) of 1 hour and 10 minutes each.
  • Learners receive a statement of achievement and a diagnostic feedback report (N.B. results are not expressed as a pass or fail).
  • Feedback reports show how a learner has performed in relation to the curriculum, their learning group, the whole school, and against all learners who have taken tests in that series around the world.
  • Teachers can use this information effectively to help learners achieve better results in the future by identifying strengths to build on and weaker skills to reinforce in 4e
